Blonde One and I both work in worlds where all time spans are numbered and counted to the nth degree.  It is hard to resist the temptation to count away your life – “Two weeks to go”, “Nearly home time”.  I try to stop myself because, in general, I actually enjoy my job and don’t particularly want to get that much older.  Counting down, however, is difficult to avoid when you are looking forward to something …

This Blonde has a secret other life which doesn’t involve Dartmoor – every Summer, I go off to spend a month with the other half of my family in New Zealand.  I realise that this makes me a very, very lucky girl but this year I am going to take you all with me. Not actually, physically take you, you understand, those airline seats are only just big enough for one big bottomed Blonde – but you can come with me in the world of blog.

I am telling you about this now because today marks a month exactly until I go.  I am very excited about taking you all with me and have no doubt that having to find things to chat about will mean that I will have some exciting Kiwi shaped adventures.  I have a few favourite things that I know I will be telling you about – cows, bonfires, quad bikes (hopefully), gumboots, pukekos (poo-kek-oh), tuis (too-ee) and giant cabbages (cab-ij-is).  I am determined to do more walking than I usually do while I am there and, believe me, there are plenty of hills in Kiwi Land to choose from.

So I guess, having resisted the urge to count away my weeks so far this year, I am doing it big-time now.  Although I am not going to be wishing next week away as it is looking pretty darn good – the Two Blondes are spending most of it up on Dartmoor with our Silver Duke of Edinburgh teams.  Life can be pretty good sometimes …
