Our long anticipated visit to the Isles of Scilly finally arrived and we were made very welcome.
Our trip began with a stay at the Penzance Youth Hostel the night before we flew. As usual we had a very comfortable stay. The email to confirm our booking had a very warm “welcome home” message. Little did we know that this was only the beginning of numerous warm welcomes.
After our Skybus flight to St Mary’s airport we were greeted by the taxi driver who was expecting us and knew exactly where to take us. We duly arrived at our fantastic guesthouse, Mincarlo, where Nick and Bryony greeted us like we were old friends. The room that they showed us to was surely the best room in the house and we felt at home within a few minutes.
Our Walk Scilly welcome pack contained all the information that we needed for the whole trip, as well as tickets and the all-important map! Our first walk of the trip was the ‘Welcome to Walk Scilly Walk’ on St Mary’s where we explored some of the pre-historic sites and learned about some of the local history. After a quick change we attended the ‘Welcome to Walk Scilly Party’ at the Mermaid Inn. We were very grateful for the complimentary drink and buffet dinner. The warm welcome we received from Will from Radio Scilly, Rachel Lambert, forager and author, Will Wagstaff, local wildlife expert, and all of the Island Partnership staff, made us feel completely at home.
Lastly we ventured up to Juliet’s Garden, where you might remember Little Miss Blonde and Numbers spent last summer working and will soon return for a second summer, and were welcomed by the staff and chef Drew.
It seems that we are ‘meant to be’ here and perhaps we should have reconsidered our short visit and actually stayed for ever!
