There is sunshine, actual, real sunshine on this frabjous day (someone else who made words up) but for most of Friday night, down here in Devon, you could have been forgiven for thinking that Chicken Licken was right after all.
Chicken Licken, as you may remember was misled by a misbehaved acorn into thinking that the sky was falling in. He rushed off to tell the King, meeting lots of friends along the way, all of whom believed him and joined his King-telling mission. My personal favourite of these friends are Goosey Loosey and Cocky Locky although I have always thought that if Cocky Locky had seduced Ducky Lucky they might have had some interestingly named offspring. Foxy Loxy appears later in the tale as the baddie who hatches a plot to eat all of the birds (must have been Christmas) but gets his comeuppance (we Blondes love a good comeuppance) in the end.
All of this leads me to tell you about some song lyrics that have been buzzing around my head recently. Blonde One and I are, as you know very good friends. We both worry sometimes about things “turning to custard” out on the moors. She has told me that she has got my back should anything go wrong and she knows, I hope that I have got hers. Such things should not be said nor received lightly.
What if I’m far from home?
Oh, brother I will hear you call.
What if I lose it all?
Oh, sister I will help you out!
Oh, if the sky comes falling down for you,
There’s nothing in this world I wouldn’t do.
The song will not appeal to many of you but no apologies, I have an eclectic taste in music. Listen if you dare! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxIiPLVR6NA
Great song, although I hadn’t listened to the lyrics that closely until today. Very apt!
The sky did seem to be falling down on Friday night – living on berry head, one of the gustiest locations in the uk is always a bit of a disadvantage in windy weather! At around 10 pm an almighty gust hit us and a shower of “something”. Found out what in the morning – the cement holding the roof tiles on!!!! About 30 tiles dislodged in one swoop of wind 🙁
Still, I think we are lucky compared to many of the flooded souls in the uk. X
An amazingly appropriate song! Interestingly (to me anyway) my Mum got fed up of reading Chicken Licken to me as a child. I wanted it read over and over and over until I could recite the whole book. When Little Miss Blonde Was little, she too loved it and it was my turn to be fed up of it. The book now has a special place in the Blonde One archives.
