The DofE recently published an infographic in their most excellent magazine. Infographics are great, they show lots of number-ish facts in a pictorial format that even a number-nervous Blonde can appreciate.
The DofE one was even better than great. I told us that 91% of DofE participants felt that doing DofE had helped them to become better team members; and that 75% of them felt that they communicated better after DofE. There were other cool number facts too; take a sneaky look below.
I thought it would be interesting to consider a similar infographic for DofE leaders/volunteers. If it were up to me I would include questions like:
“How many nights have you slept away from home this year?”
“Do you feel supported by your school?”
“Does leading DofE give you a sense of purpose?”
“On average, how many hours sleep do you get a night when you have youngsters out camping?”
“Do you actually like standing around in the rain?”
“Have you ever thought about an easier hobby?”
“Have you made some good friends doing DofE?”
“Have you ever felt like you would burst with pride at the sight of your teams completing an expedition?”
Do feel free to answer, or to add a few more questions!
I have a sneaky suspicion that the 3% eating cheesy chips AND cake is somewhat under-reported. On the other hand, the duct tape versus zinc oxide is highly probable. However, experience with doggy feet suggests that there is as yet NO sticky tape in existence that will survive galloping through bogs on a wet day.
The same is true in the World-of-Blonde. There is NO sticky tape that will hold a youngster’s boots together through a Dartmoor Ten Tors walk. Although ‘Gorilla Tape’ has been recommended to me.
Since I hardly spend any time outdoors, entirely lack teamwork skills (though I can manage a team of one), would hate to have a light bulb implanted in my noggin, and find myself worried about the lack of individuality in concertina-men cut from old newspapers much of this passed me by. Even though I haven’t given up on the Ledbury pub idea.
Tell you what, though: I wouldn’t fancy a slice cut from that cake you depict. I’d be a’feared it would stick in my guzzard.
A team of one (in my opinion) is far less manageable. I have a lot of problems with myself; far too unruly, too darn impetuous and altogether too prone to tears! Now put me in a team of Two …
