For a long time, we were all told that we should exercise to the level of sweatiness for half an hour at least three times a week. I have a horrid feeling that the health-bods have now decreed that this should be five times a week; they are surely getting a bit too big for their running shoes.

Even for Blondes with the best of intentions, three times a week does not always happen. It is obviously important to be able to walk up a the hill that you have just told your youngsters to climb; but sometimes time, and inclination just aren’t what they should be and instead of at the gym, on the moor or in the pool, you find yourself: a) Still at your desk. b) In the bath (wet but not quite swimming). c) Slumped on the sofa with a glass of wine in your hand.

So I am wondering now, what happens if you do twice the exercise on half the days? For example; if I usually swim thirty lengths on Tuesday and Wednesday, do I get the same benefits if I swim sixty lengths on Friday? Likewise, if I climb Cosdon Hill on Sunday, will I make up for missing a walk up to the Dartmoor Christmas Tree on Monday and Saturday?

I would be really interested to know the answer to this. There must be some exercise bods out there who understand muscles and cardio and fatty stuff. Do please tell me so that I can sort out my schedule.
