Yesterday morning, I woke up with a most unusual worry ferreting around my head. I was unpleasantly surprised by this as it is usually Blonde One’s job to do the worrying (we like to share tasks out equally – for example, road rage is my job)!
Before I tell you about the worry, let me explain the circumstances that led up to it;
1. We were about to spend a day on Dartmoor with some youngsters.
2. The weather forecast had said warmth and sunshine (lovely but you must admit, a bit unusual these days).
3. I had discovered the night before that wearing an underwired bra can cause reverse polarity in your compass. This resulted in a big debate with myself about the equally distressing options of having bouncy boobs or getting lost.
4. I had looked up a reminder about what you should do to stay safe out on the hills in a thunderstorm. Three bits of advice had stuck in my head – don’t sit in a cave, do sit on your rucksack and put all metal things away from you.
Have you worked out what I was worrying about yet? I would be surprised if you have, a Two Blondes mind is a very odd place to be sometimes. I was worrying about whether or not I would be more likely to get struck by lightening if I was wearing an underwired bra. In the end I decided that I didn’t have time to worry and got out of bed to eat my porridge. If anyone has an answer to my question, I would be interested to know.

Ok, so I know what not to do, but now have an image of an incredible thunderstorm with lightning strikes all over the place and lots of randomly dotted hillwalkers sitting on their rucksacks huddled in a ball hoping they won’t be the one that is hit!!! And a pile of metal walking related items with electricity flowing through it and sparks flying all over the place!
I think the small amount of metal in your bra will probably be ok. God, now you’ve got me thinking! Does titanium conduct electricity since I now have a lump embedded in my knee – will I be a magnet for lightning strikes???? Aaaah…..right I’m never going outside again!!
I think you are both far too good a person(s) (terrible English – sorry) to be struck down by lightning so I think you will be ok!!!
Did you have a thunderstorm yesterday then??? It did seem to build up a bit over Dartmoor in the afternoon and looked quite threatening!
Not a thunderclap in sight/earshot. Just Blonde paranoia. You have me worried about legs now though as I wasn’t valuable enough for titanium and got steel in my ankle. I shall remember not to lie up my back with my left leg in the air during a thunderstorm from now on!
Is that what you usually do in a thunderstorm???? Have an even funnier image in my head now!!!!
Oh, that’s easy but highly impractical! Merely braze or solder some copper wire to your bra and let the wire run down to the underside of your walking boots. There they will be soldered to copper nails attached to the underside of your walking boots and thus – you have an earth which will ground the lightening!
PS: Don’t try this at home .
PPS: Don’t try this unless you are fully certifiable ……………..
Sounds like a plan … now where can I find some copper to spin into wire …
I used to be rather fond of wired hoods on jackets – – – –
Sorry to say, most of the coppers seem to have disappeared from their beats these days; they’ve gone missing from my purse, too. Can’t help, I’m afraid.
