Navigation Training – Dartmoor National Park

Workshop 1: night navigation training

Navigation in poor visibility or at night is an important skill. It gets dark every day of the year and we all know how misty our hills and mountains can be. The other great advantage of night navigation training is that it really hones your map and compass skills. Join us if you have some existing map reading and compass skills, if you don’t, consider one of our navigation training beginners’ workshops below.

Daytime walk 1: Bowerman’s Nose

Visit Bowerman’s Nose (as seen and showed off by us  in ITV’s Britain’s Favourite Walks: Top 100). This is a short Dartmoor walk with plenty of fun, a couple of Dartmoor legends and a chance to hear about how Fi (B2) wrote ‘The Non-Story of Ignatius Bowerman’.

Workshop 2: beginners’ navigation training

Learning to navigate with a map and compass not only ensures that you are safe out in our beautiful countryside, it also makes your walk, run or cycle far more interesting. Get safely off the beaten track with our specialist ‘ladies only’ navigation training.

Workshop 4: wild camping training

A Dartmoor Walking Festival event

Wild camping is becoming more and more popular in the UK but how do you do it safely, in a responsible manner and without breaking any bylaws? We are lucky on Dartmoor to have the only legal wild camping area in England but this doesn’t mean that you can camp anywhere you want. Find out more on this popular wild camping workshop including safety skills, packing advice, food advice and then a short walk out to a stunning wild camping location.
