Our 8 hour minibus trip in Morocco took us through the fascinating town of Ouarzazate. This town is home to the Atlas Film Studios and contains all things film related. It is a former garrison town for the French Foreign Legion and stands at an altitude of 1160m. Egyptian figures standing what looked to be about 8ft tall stand guard over impressive looking fortifications, kasbahs and desert scenes.
100s of films have been filmed in this small town in the middle of the Atlas mountains including Scorsese’s Kundun in 1997, The Physician starring Ben Kingsley, Lawrence of Arabia starring Peter O’Toole and Gladiator starring Russell Crowe . The setting is quite distinct so I’ll be watching closely from now on.

Ooo I went there!!! But all I can remember is eating a sandwich with a chicken curry filling! I think I was too traumatised by our coach trip over the Atlas where we had skidded on ice and ended up rather precariously teetering over a 2000m drop before the coach finally got traction and pulled away!!!! Maybe I should return x
Rach, the drive was bad enough in a minibus, I can’t imagine doing it in a coach on icy roads! Terrifying! X
