Our 8 hour minibus trip in Morocco took us through the fascinating town of Ouarzazate. This town is home to the Atlas Film Studios and contains all things film related. It is a former garrison town for the  French Foreign Legion and stands at an altitude of 1160m. Egyptian figures standing what looked to be about 8ft tall stand guard over impressive looking fortifications, kasbahs and desert scenes.Screen Shot 2015-08-25 at 19.37.47

100s of films have been filmed in this small town in the middle of the Atlas mountains including Scorsese’s Kundun in 1997, The Physician starring Ben Kingsley, Lawrence of Arabia starring Peter O’Toole and Gladiator starring Russell Crowe . The setting is quite distinct so I’ll be watching closely from now on.
