Today I have had the most amazing afternoon spent with some of the finest young people that Devon has to offer! I have been to the presentation of the Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award where a small selection of Devon’s young adults have received their hard earned Award. I have been reminded (not that I needed it) that there are some truly inspirational youngsters amongst us and that every now and then it is VERY important to remind them how amazing they are. I have today spent time with future coastal engineers, doctors, politicians and astrophysicists and been totally blown away by how much they have already achieved in their lives. Between them they have notched up an impressive number of voluntary hours, learned an astounding amount of new skills and trekked thousands of miles in hostile conditions. I am totally in awe!
As has already been said this afternoon, these people are our future and it was a total honour to be able to share their afternoon with them. Congratulations to them all (and especially to my beautiful Astrophysicist daughter)!
It’s nice to get some positive press for young people! All too often they are branded as unruly and ignorant just because of a few who are. But in the main young people are mostly polite and pleasant!
You are so right. Blonde One and I have the privilege of spending time with some of the best of them.
I agree. It’s always good to be reminded that it is only the minority of them that are not good.
