Since the middle of March there has been growing concern for the welfare of our local businesses. Small businesses that we all used to frequent have not been faring too well with the restrictions and changes to society lately. I have heard on numerous occasions, people stating that one of the things they will change after all this is over is to shop more locally and support local businesses rather than line the pockets of the huge businesses that can probably cope without a customer or two.
Dartmoor National Park Authority have responded to this rise in customer loyalty by providing us with a map of where we can purchase local food and drink. This map gives useful information about the type of product available and the location. It includes many of the places that Blonde Two and I have frequented in the past and we certainly will be back again. The Holne Community Shop is on the list as well as Ullacombe Farm Shop; both favourites of ours. I think it will have to be my mission now to see how much local cheese and chocolate I can get. Maybe there might be some beer and gin involved in the shopping too!
It’s a fabulous idea and will certainly help to keep these precious businesses ticking over until we get back to normal (whatever that might look like).
