The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is approaching its 60th Birthday. It has helped thousands of youngsters achieve great things and be successful in all sorts of ways. Some may be surprised to hear that the Award is a charity. It doesn’t receive government or royal funding despite its royal patron. It is a charity that is very dear to the hearts of the Two Blondes and all of our friends and family. I am very proud to be associated with the Award and try to do my bit to raise its profile (not that it needs my help!).
As you would imagine for a royal 60th birthday there are exciting plans afoot. The Award is encouraging us all to help raise money by doing our own Diamond Challenge. If you’ve ever wished you could have completed your Award when you were young, then now’s your chance. If you’ve ever wanted to do a skydive, marathon run or some other thrill seeking activity, you could do it for your Diamond Challenge. The Two Blondes are contemplating our contribution. I could do something high with the Young Leaders or I could do a Bronze expedition with some of the participants’ mums; there are plenty of ideas running around my mind. I have a little plan in mind for the Two Blondes but I’ll keep you posted!
What are you going to do?!
Oh, this sounds very exciting! I missed my final hike for Silver in 1985 due to glandular fever… I should love to complete my DofE! Or even start over… Or just do the hikes… Whatever, but I’m in!
