It’s been a while since I’ve visited Ditsworthy Warren House. You might remember that this is the farmhouse that was used by Spielberg for the location of his film War Horse. This film was the adaptation of the fabulous book by Michael Morpurgo and shot Dartmoor into the national/international limelight for a while. The location is stunning but I can see why the farm was abandoned and eventually fell into disrepair. I visited on a fantastic sunny winter day but I would imagine that in the snow then this is rather remote and isolated.

I was slightly saddened to see that there was a great deal of graffiti covering the walls and window shutters, and that there was a generally sense of neglect surrounding the building. It would make an amazing bunkhouse (although mightily cold I imagine!).

The day was the second in our Ten Tors training schedule and to find that I was able (in a small way) to combine the two halves of my role at Trinity School was a real treat. It’s always a pleasure to combine English teaching with outdoor education!
