We Blondes take map reading very seriously but we have also developed our own map language…
B1: Which way is the castle from the campsite?
B2: Northright (meaning, of course, northeast).

I thought you Blondes always worked to 0.5 of a degree? BUT, I may co-opt your nomenclature to my slipshod methods thus abbreviating my mental thoughts from “a bit to the east of north.’
How do you correct that for magnetic declination?
Brilliantly of course!
Well that could be – let’s see – North by East, North North East, North East by North, East North East, East by North, or even East. I know my Hornblower.
Oops, missed out a chunk, NbyE, NNE, NEbyN, NE, NEbyE, ENE, EbyN, E. With apologies to Hornblower, but I learned it long ago!
North by Right, South by Left a Bit… I am not sure Hornblower would have approved of me!
