The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is ‘balance for better’ and, although there are some amazing women doing some amazing things out there in the outdoor world, the gender balance of outdoor leaders is still tipped in the male direction. Mountain Training England’s 2017 Development Plan states the intention to increase female registration in its training schemes from 27% to 32% by 2021. We Blondes believe in the strengths of both men and women as outdoor leaders and know some amazing and committed female outdoor leaders but we would like to see more female role models out there, encouraging both the girls and the boys to get outside, get fit and get happy!
