Walking trousers for women
Walking trousers must be amongst the most hard-worked pieces of outdoor gear. We girls are hard task mistresses, we expect our walking trousers to be warm in cold weather, breathable in hot weather, water repellent in wet weather, carry important girl gear in zip pockets and be comfortable around a huge size range of female bottoms (huge size range, not necessarily huge bottoms).
Large size walking trousers
My search for walking trousers to comfortably fit my rounder-than-average bottom is now well documented, ‘The Bottom’ even caused comment following our appearance on ITV’s Britain’s Favourite Walks: Top 100. The walking trousers I was wearing on that auspicious occasion were a favourite pair of Rohan walking trousers so it made sense, when I started my search for another pair, to start that search with Rohan. I tried on a few pairs before I found my ‘new favourite trousers’ (I was pleasantly surprised by the accuracy of this strapline). I was so pleased with them that I had to tell you all about the Rohan Women’s Troggings Walking Trousers.

Comfortable trousers for walking
I’ll be honest, this wasn’t a love-at-first-sight relationship. When I first saw the Rohan Troggings, I had a bit of an adverse reaction to the fact that they had a drawstring waist. This, of course, was down to a touch of Blonde vanity, surely drawstring trousers are for the middle-aged? Of course, once I had reminded myself that at 50 I was, in all likelihood, middle-aged, I decided to embrace the drawstring… I was glad I did. On a recent Gold DofE expedition I wore the Troggings walking trousers for three days in a row because they were so comfortable. Drawstrings, it turns out, are an asset. You can adjust them according to your current level of crisp-consumption-related-tummy-size (is it just me who changes size?), they can be tightened as you fill your pockets to prevent embarrassing trouser-fall-down, and they completely remove the need for button fumbling when you are attempting a ‘quick-before-the-team-arrive’ wee. (Too many hyphens in one sentence?)

Zipped pockets a must
The Women’s Rohan Troggings have two other clever features, two decent-sized zip pockets cleverly hidden in the seam and a tap along the bottom hem to prevent worn patches where they rub against walking boots.
Warm walking trousers
The fabric is impressive, it is 90% polyester and 10% elastane with Durable Water Repellency™ that actually works and has a very light layer of brushed insulation on the inside to keep in the warmth. It did keep me warm during chillier back-at-camp moments but the thing that really impressed me about the Rohan Troggings was that they also kept me cool during some tough water-carrying walks during that rare phenomenon, a Dartmoor heatwave.
Exactly the trousers I needed
The Women’s Rohan Troggings may give the initial impression of middle-age but they are convenient, warm, cool, water repellent, comfortable, stretchy and surprisingly flattering. They are indeed my ‘new favourite trousers’ and you can’t have them… I would, however, recommend getting a pair of your own!
From time to time we Blondes are sent free outdoor products to field test and promote on social media. We will always be honest about our findings and any products we don’t keep for ourselves find their way into our expedition stores. Great for us, great for you and great for our youngsters! We have an affiliate advertising relationship with Rohan.
