What else is there to do on a typical autumnal Devon day but to get outside and try out my new hiking shoes, the Salomon X Ultra 3 GTX. I received them free from Salomon in exchange for this review, but I was more than happy to try them as I have previously found Salomon to be a good fit for me. These shoes really were the perfect thing for this day. I didn’t want boots as I wasn’t going for a full day out on the hill. I didn’t plan my route to take in anything rough so a shoe would be fine.
I ordered a half a size bigger than normal as I’ve found in the past that Salomon can be a bit tight (or it could be that my feet are growing) (incidentally this is a thing that happens with age!). I was right as these were a perfect fit. I liked them especially as they felt sturdy enough to be a boot, and they had a good strong and grippy sole. The only difference I think is the lack of ankle support.
When they were in the box I thought they looked a bit ‘boyish’ despite the flash of colour. When they were on I changed my mind; they felt good and looked good too. If you are concerned about colour the Ultra 3 GTX comes in some more girlie ones too.
I would definitely recommend them.
