We Blondes have told you about our love of the Dartmoor 365 book before http://wp.me/p2OiIR-hQ We still love it and are still slowly collecting squares.
On Saturday, I added my solo camp (three squares) and had a count up. I was very pleased to find out that I have finally reached the half-way mark with a grand total of 182 of Dartmoor’s square miles now visited.
I have covered much of the central moor, but seem to have a walking block about discovering the edge of Dartmoor. This situation needs sorting out, especially as there are lots of pubs there! There are some rather odd single blank squares in the middle of my coloured-in ones: Fices Well for example – I have no idea why I haven’t been there; or Crow Tor, I have gazed at its tank-like shape many times but never made the trip over. The cross at Dunstone (although apparently very easy to spot) remains uncoloured despite several Blonde attempts to find it http://wp.me/p2OiIR-vu
There are two maps in the Dartmoor 365 book. I use the other one to mark places that I have slept on the moor. Many, many nights, but surprisingly only 11 squares. This is because we tend to stick to tradition for Ten Tors nights; but I feel the situation should be rectified.
I will definitely complete all of my first map (Blonde determination); but to sleep on every part of Dartmoor may well prove too big a challenge. Who, for example, would choose to make their bed and lie in it at Grim’s Grave or in Crazywell Pool?
Any parking place will do for sleeping – providing you take an inflatable lilo to keep you out of the water, the marsh, the puddles, the rivers and streams and the reservoirs! The only problem could be those 4 a.m. visits.
An inflatable lilo. Now why didn’t I think of that before!
I wish the visits were just 4 a.m. and not every hour (well nearly!)
Loving the Dartmoor 365, there is a very active FB page by the same name with photos posted daily. I too find I have random single squares within coloured in blocks, and yes Fices Well is one of those!
So glad you are enjoying it. We are looking forward to gathering a few more this year. Our problem is that walking with youngsters, we often follow the same training routes. Keep up the good work!
