I survived!

2 weeks in Morocco with 13 teenagers was a daunting prospect, I have to admit. I lost sleep, grew extra grey hairs and gained a good few wrinkles. But I needn’t have worried – it was amazing.

I averaged 4 hours sleep a night, I nursed fears, illnesses and homesickness, I cajoled fussy eaters, resolved conflicts, consoled owners of lost luggage, mopped up nosebleeds, tried to cool high temperatures and dealt with the effects of diarrhoea. I spent the first week working in 50° temperatures and the second week trekking on edges of mountains. I learned masses about my team and about myself. I had the time of my life!

Here’s an extract from the last entry of my journal: ‘ The first sentence of this journal was me asking myself if this trip was a sensible idea. Well in some ways it wasn’t but in more ways than I can possible state it was one of the best ideas I’ve ever had. Like some of the team, I have learnt so much about myself. I have had an amazing time and been through too many emotions to recall. I am truly humbled by the actions, words and sentiments of my team; they have been inspirational. Each one of them has been on their own journey and proved that in the face of difficulty they can rise to the challenge and achieve anything with a smile on their face. Was it worth all of the 18 months of work?  … my goodness yes!’
