On the recent Two Blondes navigation workshop we asked the young people if they would like to design their own symbol for OS maps. Obviously they jumped at the chance and came up with some really good ideas. Can you guess what the four above were symbols for?

Here’s the answers. The jelly fish is a suggestion for the sea. The second one warns of the potential for wild animals (particularly inspired by the lynx that is currently loose on Dartmoor). The third card shows suitable places to go climbing and would include the grading for the climb. Lastly the youngsters thought it might be a good idea to show a shop on the map.

All of them are excellent suggestions worthy of consideration from Ordnance Survey.
