Favourite Outdoor Songs for Valentine’s Day
No the title above isn’t a pre-Valentine’s Day invitation (unless you happen to be Mr B2). Have you ever noticed how so many of the best romantic songs have an outdoor theme to them? Is this maybe because the outdoors is a very romantic place to be? Or more likely because being outside brings out the best in all of us? Here are B2’s top 5 outdoor romantic songs.
5. The Dock of the Bay – Otis Reading
You can almost hear the rhythm of the sea within the bars of this song. More sad than romantic but you can tell that any moment a beautiful young lady is going to turn up and make Otis’ life all better.
4. Wings – Mull of Kintyre
Mist may not be to everyone’s taste but who could fail to feel romantic with bagpipes, flickering embers and heavenly choirs?
3. Islands in the Stream – Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers
What could be more romantic than being on an island in the middle of a stream? Obviously, no wetsuits or hypothermia would be involved, just soft, soft grass and the gentle sound of bubbling water.
2. Bonfire Heart – James Blunt
I am a massive bonfire fan and any man who builds one for me to burn would have a special place in my heart. ‘People like us‘, well surely that means people who love being outside?
1. Kiss Me – Six Pence None the Richer
Possibly my favourite song ever, this musical masterpiece includes all of my favourite outdoor elements, swings, moonlight, a mysterious trail and, best of all, a map. As for, ‘We’ll take the trail marked on your father’s map.’ Surely the most romantic offer ever given!
I could go on but I have an outdoor Valentine’s challenge for you. At some point this week choose your romantic outdoor song, take it with you outside to an appropriate spot (you will obviously need a map) and share the moment with us.

See my latest post, “The Tender Trap” – “you hurry to a spot that is just a dot on the map.”

Looks like a lovely walk. Well done with the knee (hope for the future for me) and here’s to many more dots on the map!
Great songs…love them all😄
There are so many great outdoor romantic songs that I struggled to choose favourites!
Seeing the final photo of Yar Tor reminds me of when I first came to the UK and learnt to love the moors and accept the weather and discovered not only letterboxing but a man who loved it too ! I still have all the books with the stamps from our time of yomping and stamping!
Something to treasure we would say and how clever of you find a man in a Dartmoor letter box! ♥
