I am sure we are all actually benefiting from getting to know our local area much more since we have been restricted in our movements away from home. I have quite enjoyed exploring my local area and visiting places that I hadn’t been to before and discovering new routes. Sometimes these have been through houses: I have discovered little short-cuts through areas that I didn’t know were there. Sometimes it’s been pathways and lanes in a more rural setting.
I’ve used the fabulous OS mapping to help. It has shown me new routes to try out and helped to create circular walks of the perfect length.
Here’s just a few of the things I have discovered from a very short walk which is only a hop, skip and jump away from the front door.
What have you discovered?

That looks a lovely walk! I’ve found a new way up our local mini-mountain coming out at the top only a few hundred yards from one of my bird survey squares – not that we are surveying this year, sadly. But it is nice to pop out at the top of the hill and recognise the pathway. I missed the OS maps webinar – hope it will be repeated.
That sounds fantastic. We saw so many families out exploring our copse yesterday. The birds were giving them good entertainment! I will find out about the webinar for you.
