If you’re ever in the area of North Dartmoor and are at a bit of a loose end, I can recommend visiting the fantastic Lydford Gorge. It belongs to the National Trust and is well worth some exploration. The walking is mostly easy, with plenty of path furniture to warn you of steep sections. Sturdy shoes are a must, as the paths are wet and slippery in places. There’s plenty to enjoy including the Whitelady waterfall and the Devil’s Cauldron. The River Lyd was quite low on our visit but still the falls and cauldron were raging; I bet it would be amazing (and very loud) to visit on a day after some heavy rain.

After you’ve explored the woodland and waterways there’s the obligatory cafe to wet your whistle and indulge in a piece of cake, and the shop of course.
