Anything goes on a Monday so, as you all head back to work (and we head somewhere else quite exciting), here’s something a little bit Blonde and a little bit outdoors to get you thinking.
The Ordnance Survey Street2Peak project (previously seen on the One Show) gave the opportunity for six young people from London, who had very little experience of the outdoors, to climb Ben Nevis. They did it in style and, in my role as a Get Outside Champion, I was in charge of teaching them a few basic navigation skills before they set off. You can see the whole video below (and the youngsters stories) but my favourite bit is Sonny’s wonderful explanation of how to use a compass to find north. Sometimes we oldies make things far too complicated…
‘Keep coming until this red thing. Boom. Is inside the red thing. Then you follow that line up there and that’s north.’
