PALOES is the Professional Association of Leaders of Outdoor Education in Schools and I’m sorry to say I’ve only just discovered it. This organisation is a great resource which can help school outdoor leaders with many aspects of their delivery. It gives excellent advice, provides great networking opportunities and offers training and conference events.
It’s important for there to be bodies like these to encourage and assist in what is often a difficult job. Giving teachers an avenue for gaining support is crucial to the continuation of having the outdoors as a regular part of school life.
The annual conference to be held in June at Play y Brenin, includes seminars such as the role of the expedition in education and moving away from the mindset of ‘I can’t’. It looks to be a fantastic event that I wish I could attend (Bronze DofE won’t run itself!).
