Sometimes, in children’s stories, young heroes and heroines can fall out of their own worlds into the world of a picture. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (a personal favourite) is an example. Yesterday, the Two Blondes found themselves in just that situation. We were on a mission to find a quintessential Devon cream tea in a quintessential Devon setting and I think we did pretty well. We have been to the Prince Hall Hotel on Dartmoor before and already knew about the deep comfortable sofas, the delicious scones and the relaxed feeling of being in your very own country house. What we had forgotten about was the picture perfect view from both the gardens and the house. We sat inside on the sofas for a while admiring said view through the generous windows but before long the sun came out and we were tempted outside. Blonde One arranged two chairs to face the vista and there we were, Two Blondes inside an English pastoral painting.
It really was perfect, the cows were the right colour with beautiful calves, the bridge was perfectly placed and Dartmoor was showing off some shades of green that looked as though they had been digitally enhanced. There was even entertainment in the form of House Martins darting in and out of their nests.
So, if you are in the mood for a bit of Dartmoor luxury with all that you could wish for in Dartmoor scenery thrown in, head off for the Prince Hall Hotel and experience it for yourself. You may even bump into the Two Blondes because we are definitely going to be visiting again.
