You will probably know that ravens are permanent residents at the Tower of London and legend has it that if they should ever leave, the nation will collapse, fall into crisis or at the very least there would be a national disaster. Well apparently approximately 100 years ago the raven colony was close to extinction and a call was given to find new ravens to avoid imminent disaster. A farmer from West Dartmoor decided to save the nation and sent young ravens from the quarry near to his farm up to London. So according to this story all the ravens from the Tower of London are descendants of Devon stock. I can’t verify the validity of this story but it’s a good one nevertheless.
