There’s no doubt about it … rainbows are an amazing thing. They fill us with optimism and hope and we all dream of finding that elusive pot of gold. A rainbow appears as the sun shines after some rain so we inevitably love to see them as they herald the better weather. Walking on Dartmoor has allowed me to see some stunners and even led me to take a slight deviation in my route in order to stay within sight of the rainbow.
If you’ve ever wondered what the science is behind them then the Newsround website is good for a few answers. I’ve used this site several times at school to explain in a child friendly way aspects of weather that are potentially confusing. The Met Office has a slightly more adult explanation if you can cope with a bit more science!
Whatever the science behind them they are certainly beautiful and definitely a sight for sore (or wet) eyes.
