The passing of His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh has given me, and others involved in his Award, the occasion to stop and consider the impact he has had on my life.
We felt his loss greatly as it happened and I am sure that we will feel it keenly going forward. But let’s remember the amazing effect he has had on so many lives. He has made a huge difference to so many lives of young people, and the few messages I have had from ex-students over the last week has proved that. Not only have they got enhanced CVs and therefore enhanced life chances, but they have had the opportunity to challenge themselves and to prove to themselves and others that they have so many amazing qualities and attributes. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award really has made a difference to so many people and was incredibly forward thinking when it was launched over 60 years ago.
For me personally, I have become the adult that I am in many ways because of this Award. I have had amazing opportunities and met some truly incredible people: leaders and participants. These people and events have shaped me and brought me so much happiness. I feel thankful and blessed.
