If my recent blog posts about my wild swimming adventures have made you want to join in with this most excellent of outdoor pursuits then we Blondes have the perfect event for you.

Sophie Pierce and Matt Newbury are experienced Devon wild swimmers and the co-authors of: Wild Swimming Walks: Dartmoor and South Devon, and Beyond the Beach: the secret wild swims of Torbay. These wonderful books have helped many people (including me) take the outdoor swimming plunge but now Matt and Sophie are going a step further to encourage new or nervous swimmers into open water with their (brilliantly named) Mild Swimming event.

Mild Swimming will include an illustrated ‘tips and experiences’ talk, the opportunity to ask questions of experienced wild swimmers and a short sea swim to a local secret spot (I know where it is and it is truly worth visiting).

The Mild Swimming event will be held at Torre Abbey in Torquay at 16:00 on Saturday July 22nd. More information here, but we do feel that we should tell you that your £10 ticket will include a copy of Beyond the Beach: the secret wild swims of Torbay, so that, once you have gained a bit of confidence, you can take yourself off exploring a bit further afield. Here I am exploring the water in the Cairngorms.

Sadly we Blondes are busy somewhere else that day (more about that later but it involves a reservoir, smart t-shirts and some crisps!) otherwise I would have come down to join in.
