This is a very delicate and sensitive matter that I have to broach carefully so as not to upset Big Orange, my wonderful Mountain Equipment sleeping bag. The thing is though, that I have recently been sent another sleeping bag to try. This one (the Elevation 200) is made by Berghaus, filled with down, weighs far less than Big Orange and is going to be coming with me to New Zealand.

I am hoping that Big Orange will enjoy the rest (being expected to keep a camping Blonde warm all through the winter can take it out of a bag!) He hasn’t been rejected and is still the warmest thing I possess but I needed a smaller and lighter sleeping bag to fit into my Air New Zealand luggage allowance along with a hotch-potch of hammocks, tarps, tents and other outdoor kit.

My new sleeping bag, Little Green (I do love a nomenclature) only weighs 0.78 kilos (that’s no kilos) and packs down into its own small stuff sack. It is down filled (with RDS approved down) just like Big Orange, but only suitable for 2-3 seasons (for me that means 1-2 seasons). This could prove an issue for my forthcoming trip as New Zealand is well known for having 4 seasons in one day but if I can arrange to get into the Berghaus Elevation at the right time of day, all should be fine.

My new sleeping bag was sent to me to try by the lovely folk at Millets. Upon excitedly receiving the package (who doesn’t love a new sleeping bag?) I decided to try it out on the lounge floor (which was at summer temperatures). I was asleep for a whole hour!

From time to time we Blondes are sent free outdoor products to field test and promote on social media. We will always be honest about our findings and any products we don’t keep for ourselves find their way into our expedition stores. Great for us, great for you and great for our youngsters!
